The lobe pump is consist of a casting housing, shaft, rotors and mechanical seal. Shaft connects the motor and rotors. When motor starts working, the shaft will rotate which makes the rotor to revolve synchronously. Two rotors inside the casing without touching each other but dividing the cavity into several parts gives space for the fluid to fill in. As rotor moves in counter-clockwise directions, it carries the fluid from inlet to discharge port while generating pressure at the discharge port.

The working principle of a screw pump revolves around the positive displacement mechanism, where fluid is moved by trapping and displacing a fixed volume of it through the pump. Screw pumps are designed to use one or more helical screws to achieve this displacement. The main components involved in the working of a screw pump are the screws (rotors) and the stator.

Here are the basic steps of working of screw pumps:-

• Screw pumps have one or more helical screws (rotors) that are typically mounted on a central shaft.
• The screws rotate inside a stationary component called the stator. The stator is typically a cylindrical or semi-cylindrical casing that surrounds the screws.
• Fluid to be pumped enters the pump at the suction end. As the screws rotate, they create expanding cavities that draw in the fluid.
• The helical shape of the screws and the stator causes the expanding cavities to trap a fixed volume of fluid. This trapped fluid is carried along the length of the screw as it rotates.
• As the screws continue to rotate, the trapped fluid is moved axially along the screws. The fluid is forced towards the discharge end of the pump.
• The fluid is then expelled from the pump at the discharge end. The rotation of the screws ensures a continuous and non-pulsating flow.
• The process is repeated as the screws continue to rotate, creating a consistent flow of fluid.

Screw pumps are mostly used on fluids of a higher viscosity, moving these fluids with screw pumps results in energy efficient and a relatively compact machine when compared to other pump types i.e centrifugal pump.
