What the check is there to find, what is actually done with the instrument, and what leaves the factory with the goods.

What it catches

  • Seats and seals that weep under pressure rather than in a hand check.
  • Porosity and sand holes in a casting that survived machining.
  • Assemblies put together correctly but tightened wrongly.

How it is run

  • The valve is clamped in the rig, brought up to pressure, and held while the gauge is watched.
  • Leaks are found on the hydraulic machine; a bubble is a rejection, not a discussion.
  • Temperature testing is run alongside pressure on valves whose duty calls for it.

Corrosion and explosion testing are not run here as standard. Where an application needs either, say so with the enquiry and we will arrange it rather than leave it unsaid.

Questions about pressure testing

Is every valve tested, or a sample?
Every valve. Pressure and temperature testing is run on each one before it is packed, across three test centres in our own factory.
Can I have the test report?
Yes — ask for it with the order and the pressure test report ships with the goods.
What pressure is a valve tested at?
At the duty the valve is rated for. If your line is specified to a particular figure, put it on the enquiry and we will confirm what we test to before you order.
Is temperature tested as well?
Yes, alongside pressure on valves whose duty calls for it, and on the same rigs in the same building.
What happens to a valve that weeps?
It is rejected, stripped and re-tested. A bubble in the water is a rejection, not a discussion, which is the only way testing every valve is worth doing.
Do you run corrosion or explosion testing?
Not as standard. Where an application needs either, say so with the enquiry and we will arrange it rather than leave it unsaid.
